Foods to Eat After Surgery
- Yogurt or frozen yogurt
- Ice Cream (no small nuts, candy bits, or hard chunks)
- Mashed Potatoes
- Congee (soupy rice/porridge)
- Soup (Not too hot)
- Apple Sauce
- Soft fruit (canned peaches, ripe avocado, ripe banana)
- Ground Meats
- Blended smoothies (Jamba Juice, Juice it up - without a straw)
- Noodle meals or macaroni & cheese
- Ensure or Slimfast or other nutrient rich shake
- Scrambled Eggs
- Pudding or custard
- Cottage Cheese
- Jell-O
- Oatmeal or Cream of Wheat
Foods to AVOID After Oral Surgery
- Avoid using straws
- Hard and crunchy food
- Spicy food
- Sticky food (i.e. chewy candy, gum)
- Food with sharp edges ( i.e. tortilla chips, fish bones)
- Acidic foods (i.e. grapefruit juice)
Proper nutrition will allow for optimal healing and recovery. Once you are tolerating a comfortable soft diet, you may try foods with a harder consistency. If it hurts to eat the harder food, then transition back to soft foods until comfortable.
- Nothing with sharp edges (tortilla chips, fish bones)
- Nothing too acidic (grapefruit juice)
